My advice:

Don't back down, don't show fear, AND DO NOT ESCALATING the situation unless it is absolutly necessary.. Too many time, I saw chinese (mainlanders Hongkongnese, taiwanese) don't stand up for themselves. Don't let them know that you are afraid. Criminal can sense that.
