My mortgage bank is Bank of America, their rule is if under $20K, they will just sign the check, if more, you have to call them to discuss, they have some people just handle those kind of case. So I don't know what they will do about the money. You have to call them to find out. But my guess is that they just want you to fix damage to keep the house value, I don't think they care how exactly the money spend. If the insurance company diectly pay you (not include mortgage company), I don't think you need to report to your mortage company.
