1/3 settlement, cost included

What I did after negotiation was that the contract was modified as my lawyer would get 1/3 of settlement with all his expenses included in his 1/3. So I got precisely 2/3 and the lawyer got 1/3.

This may be a good approach to you if you expect your settlement is not above $100,000.
