What kind of "shared computer" is it? Who is administrating the computer?
It's very unwise to store important files on shared computer. Or any computer without proper backup. Even a simple hard disk failure can eat them all.
it's possible that any user can delete any file on such computer according to configuration. Or maybe admin deleted your file because you exceed disk quota etc
