This dentist probably never had such lawsuit experience before.  You should feel lucky.  Most of the post dental infection ends up with nothing or very tiny repayment since infection is one of the common side effect and is signed prior to the procedure.   Some Chinese doctors and dentists are usually afraid of going through legal process.
