You have to notify your

insurance company yourself. You must give a notice of claim to your own insurance company before they can get involved. It is not the 3rd party's responsibility to do it. They may find a lawyer for you, or if you find your own lawyer, they have to approve the choice. You cannot just hire a lawyer without letting them know, if you ever want to get reimbursed.
