poor dad in ugly divorce

She physically left me and child 3 years ago. I filed the divorce 1 year ago. We had a settlement conference last month but it broke. She wanted to use the filing date as separation date, I use the date she physically left. I know she just want to get more money and longer supose support. It seems her attorney is playing the tricks to this question. I think we need to determine the separation date first. My have solid evidence that she wanted separation when she abandoned us. As a 'single dad' (I have my child's temp sole custody now), I'm working full time and taking care of my child by my own. Plus this fight with this woman, life is very stresful. I just want to complete this case ASAP and leave this heartless woman behind. Of course, since she is so greedy, I have to protect my money/preperty as well. My question is: if we can't reach an agreement on the separation date, shall I file a motion to ask judge decide it? or schedule another SOC (Settlement conference meeting)? or directly request a trial? I'm in San francisco bay area. (since this is a public forum, if you can reply to my private mail box (Qiao1 Qiao1 Hua4), it'll be nice!)
