hit by a car while walking

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here would give me some suggestion. Is there any way I can ask for some kind of financial compensation  from the guy?

 While I was in the middle of the crosswalk, a pick-up truck coming from the opposite direction made a turn to his left. The truck didn’t stop in time, So it hit me.   I was then taken to the ER. After many tests, fortunately, they didn’t find any internal bleeding and broken bone. There are a lots of bruised and abrasion and “kind of “concussion”. They let me go home later in the day.

Later I called the police officer.  She told me I will receive the policy report within 2 weeks.

So dear readers, what do I need to do next? Do I need to find a lawyer now or later?   Do I need to contact the guy’s insurance myself?
