Contact the lawyer

I think you should contact the lawyer who is on this case and explain what had happened.

When I tried to refinance our mortgage, the title company found that a lien was put on our house against the previous owner. I called the lawyer on this case and explained that I am not the one who owed the money. I showed him our title documents. So the lawyer contacted his client and removed the lien from our title.

I do not know if it will work with your situation, but it worth a try.
