Root canal has a failure rate of 10%-15%. So unless you can prove your dentist did something wrong, yes you are responsible for the whole cost. But you sure can talk to you dentist and ask for the fee waiver based on your loss.

Regardless of your choice, "ignore the letter" will not make the problem go away. You have to face it and deal with it.
