Can F-1 holder travel with AP?

I am holding F-1 visa now and will complete my PhD degree next year. I co-currently filed I-140, 485, 131 and 765 for my family in March 2005 under EB2 NIW. I-140 was approved in April. I think I will get AP soon. I am going to go back to visit my family this summer with AP. Does anyone have such experience? What kind of risk will I have? Thanks in advance!
