When you land in Canada first time, most of your personal properties (including a passenger vehicle) are duty-free, i.e., customs won't charge you import tax. The question is for yourself: do I want to import? If you're working & living in USA, you probably don't want to do it because then you need to "import" back to USA. On the other hand, if you actually move to Canada in the near future, you would have to pay import tax at that time.
I'm living in Seattle. I drove to Vancouver and landed in 2002. The customs officer actually stamped on my landing paper saying that if i decide to import my car to Canada within one year, they'll waive my import tax, usually the waiver only applies first time landing.
