My lawyer didn't file "follow-to-join" for my spouse in China. He told me I can start the process at any time, after my I-485 is approved. This process takes shorter time because the spouse of the pricipal petitioner don't need to wait an extra time for an immigrantion visa to be avaible. So it takes shorter time....
