You definatly can file seperatly. I485 is very easy, do not need to pay so much.And it may take you 5-6 years to get the approvement. That is too long a journey. You hu*****and may get a better chance to get his NIW approved in Vermont within 1-2 years, if he is qualified and has a solid background.Anyway, he can file I485 anytime after your I140 approvl.
