-It means if your illegal stay is > 180 days, you will not be allowed to enter US if you leave US and you also can not get the green card within US. So, you need to tell everything (such as when your I-94 expired, when the extension was submitted, etc.) about your H-1 extension filing to your green card lawyer to see whether your status is fine. I can not make a suggestion because I don't know the whole thing about your situation.
