when you talk to the CBP officer in the Deferred Inspection office, don't say it is your fault. Just say you did not realize the CBP officer at the port of entry gave the I-94 duration much shorter than your spouse's H1 I-94 duration and you just found this mistake now, and you do not understand why this happened. The mistake have resulted in your status problem and will affect your entire family life and ask them whether they fix it for you. Talk to them politely and gently. If they do not fix it for you, then it is normal. Just try every possibility. Good luck!
By the way,
