We plan to apply B-2 extension for my mom for two months. Please help some questions:

time T1: the time to file B2 extension;
time T2: the time when original I-94 expires
time T3: the time that the decision is made by USCIS about the B2 extension

My questions:

1. between T1 and T3: my mom is legal. She is in grace period, right?

>> What you're talking about should be between T2 and T3.  Though it isn't called grace period, it's legal, as long as T1<T2.

2. usually how large is T3-T1? That is, how long does it take USCIS to make the decision?

>> Something from 2-3 months to 4-5 months.  Actually I don't know what it's the exact number right now.  However when I extented my Mom's B2 status several years ago, I waited 6 months.

3. When to apply for B-2 extension? My mom’s I-94 will expire in early April..

>> According to the CIS recommendation, it sould be T2-T1>45 days.  Usually people do it as T2-T1~30 days.  However, as long as you make sure (CIS received date)<T2, it's definately OK.
