AP vs H-1B

I am thinking of going home. I am working on my H and also have AP.I know AP will allow me to re-enter US, but my lawyer still strongly advises me to go to shanghai consulate and get a H-1B visa stamped on my passport. He insists there are more benefits that way but couldn't give me any specific explanations. Does anyon ehere know what are the differeces coming back on AP vs on H-1B visa? Thanks!!!
