EAD categories for the spouse of granted asylum who filed I-485:

My friend's wife was granted asylum and he filed I-485 to apply for adjustment of status as the spouse of asylee. The EAD category is  (a)(5) for asylee and (c)(9) for adjustment of status. Anyone knows what categoiry he should use? Should he be treated as asylee applicant or adjustment applicant. Thank you very much in advance.
