how shoud stay in the US/year after getting GC?

Parents are in China now, and are sick so that can't travel. I heard that each GC holder shold stay at least 6 months per year in the US to maintain the GC status. My parents have been out of the US for almost 6 months. Will there be any problem if they can't get back to the US in time?
