After you submit 485, you are automatically in AOS.

-Not true. I-485 filing does not affect pre-existing F1 status, but the F1 status can not be extended or transferred. However, if the F1 hodler uses AP or EAD, his/her F1 status will be terminated immediately and then be AOS automatically.
