Question about adjustment of status in the US

My university is filing I-140 in EB1b with premium process for me. My hu*****and is work in China; and his job does not allow him to stay in US for longer than 3-4 weeks. I want him to get status adjusted in the US. My understanding is that he should come to the US after my i-140 is approved and then return to China after we submit i-485. Am I correct? Any better options for us? Thanks!
