By the way, normally how long it takes to change visa from B2 to F-1?
-Hard to say, case by case. But the kid had better not change his/her B2 status to F1 until 3 to 4 months later. If he/she change the status too soon, USCIS may deny the F1 application because they may question the purpose of the kid's B2 visa application (e.g. why the kid did not apply for the F1 directly).
