I am working with H1B at a university now, which is NOT capped H1B.

If I work at a capped company in the future, I have to wait that company H1B petition is approved so I can work there,

-Yes, technically. But you need to stop working for the capped h1 employer after the capped h1 approval and then work again on Oct. 1 (Capped H1 effective date). So, the risk is that if you quit your university job and work for teh capped employer in Aril,for example, then your capped h1 petition is approved in May, you need to stop working and wait for the capped H1 is effective on Oct. 1. Thus, you will be out of status from May to Oct. 1 because your origanl h1 is invalid (you quit the university job) and your new h1 is not effective until Oct.1.
