being in OPT instead of H1, except for tax and ssn and medical taxes. But IRS recently reject more and more cases for $5000 claim for Chinese student while in OPT.
If you are in faculty position, you can take your time. But the check has to be made by your unversity and the I129 petition has be made on your university's behalf.
