illegal alien child can go to K-12 public school. You will file I-130/I-485 for child when you are US citizen. The child could have got GC if you had brought him back to US (your first trip back) Now child is no longer eligible and have to use another category to get GC (US citizen's minor child category is better than F2A category in your case).
