H1B transfer by New Company and AP by Old Company

I am in the middle of job transition. It takes forever for the new company to file for H transfer - maybe soon, but don't know when. At the same time, the old company - have not quitted yet- wanted to renew AP for me. Is there any legal consequence of having two companies doing two things for the same person? Thanks!
