1. Apply for EAD immediately
2. It does not matter to use EAD or H1B for I-485 pending. It is important that you have a job. CIS may ask you provide employee status before making final decision.
3. Working with EAD, you still can apply for H1B. I had both EAD and H1B when my I-485 was pending.
