We applied for visa extention for my in-law last Dec, and did not received anything. In this April, I wrote letter to our state Senator Biden (VP-elect) whose office contacted the immigration office and helped us to expedite the visa process. My in-law got her extentin in early May and left just on time. So you may want to try your state senator
