I know someone came with TN and applied for H1-B and was approved. His H1-B started Oct 1 and TN ended Sept 21. To be able to keep on working, he renewed TN. His lawyer told him that since his H1-B is an AOS (from TN to H1), the H1-B would kick in automatically. He later renewed his H1-B for another 3 years and was approved - so the TN was not an issue.
I think you need to find out, since your AOS has not been approved(or if it is approved? Having an EAD means it has been approved?) before you renewed your TN, whether that is a problem.

Wrong ! AOS has nothing to do with H1B.
