I saw there were people bring their kid, but very rarely, and the kid was 4 or 5 years old. Maybe you can ask if there is any walk-in daycare around.
If your interview is on Monday, you can get your visa back on Thursday or Friday afternoon at the embassay.
If you are checked, they will give your passport back right away, but keep your H1, H4 paper so you can't go back to the US. The check usually takes 2 to 3 weeks and after it's finished you need to summit your passports and get the visa stamped.
I know a few people got checked in Toronto recently including myself. So be prepared.
