I am not sure about this. Based the info I got from Infopass,

you have to request reopening your denied 485 after 140 was approved, ie. 485 remains denied status during the 140 appealing process. Also, EAD is invalid before the 140 appeal is filed for sure(about a month?). In addition, nobody can predict whether 140 appeal is successful or not.
