for relink to work or meaningful, the second I-140 has to be approved and with current PD. otherwise, the I-485 is not approvalble anyway. you won't know whether it works or it does not work.
In your case new I-140 is PD current but not approved, so your relink will have no effect, even it is "successful". you will only guess that it was a success when wife's I-485 automatically gets approved.
