I think you should be not illegal to stay here since you can be in AOS status although you lose H1. Also you company can't withdraw your approved I140 because I140 was approved last July
The only thing is you can't work now as you don't have EAD now. Once your EAD is approved then you can go back to work again. You don't even need H1B although having H1B gives you one more option.
