H4-H1 means give up GC?

I am a H4 visa holder. My wife filed I-140/I-485 last year. We are I-140 pending now. I got my EAD last December. I found a job last month. Now they are applying h1b visa for me. But somebody told me that if I apply H1b and get it, it means I will automatically give up my immigration application(I-485). Is it right?
