Better change to H1b

Since J1 is not allowed to change the studying filed, even in the same school with the same program number.

So, better to get H1b to work for your new boss.
Did you ever use that J1? That would be a problem to get waiver.

Your school visa officer will handle the visa problem for you. But you need seriously think about your J1 waiver if you used it.
