When I applied for my daughter, I turned in 當年在北京醫院開具的出生證, it was translated here and notarized here. I thougt that is a better one. But I got RFE when the case was reviewed. The RFE particularly said the birth cert. must come from the chinese district level notary office (Gongzhengchu).

You see, Gongzhengchu is well-known and famous name even in US officer. They know how to say in Chinese.
