h1b check

I am planning to visit Beijing but concerned about the background check (it will casue a lot of delays). I need to apply H1-B to return to US. Does anyone know the possibility of being checked? I was issued a H1-b visa this summer without being checked. How likely will I be check next time? Thanks.
