I don't think that makes much difference

Since out-of-state students are usually charged same as international students, there is no savings in terms of tuitions. With EAD, the kid can work without restriction, just as any out-of-state student. For scholarship/grant, they only consider whether you have GC or not, and some might not consider AOS.
