I don't know about coming from China, but I have had problem this June, when I try to enter US from Canada using my B2 visa. The officer didn't like my one way ticket, as well as my big luggage. I had to buy a return ticket and try again the next say, but a different officer on the next day didn't even look at my return ticket! So I would say that it depends on the officer. And also, if the officer is about to send you to a separate office to precess you, you'd better withdraw your attempt, rather than getting a rejecting record. That is why I walked away and tried again the next day.
