Do I need apply for AP back to the US ?-Canadain citizen

I hold Canada passport and on H-1B now, plan to file I-485 in July, 2007. I'll travel back to China after getting I-485 receipt.
Do I need to apply for AP ?
I had no problem before with returning many times into the US from othr countries with my H-1B.
