Is that too late for marriage?

I plan to marry my fiance in this Aug. or Sept., but he told me that he had submitted i-485 and i-140 last sept., and if his gc got approved before our marriage, it would be a lot of trouble for me to apply for gc later on.
is that really too late to be added in?
