much easier than you thought

My wife did it in a similar way. She went DMV to apply for a driver's license, of course it was not issued because she doesn't have SSN. She then brought the receipt (not even a letter), showing SSN needed for license, to SSA and within a few weeks, she received SSN, and then her driver's license, too!
