I am in the similar condition as you. I feel if you think you can get H1 visa in 2 or 3 weeks, this is better and safest way for further I-140 and 485. The problem is nobody knows how long it will take to get H1B visa. How about security check and even worse denied when apply H1 visa? Can one come back with AP? I haven't heard any information about this condition. I am also afraid to apply H1 visa in China. What is your major? Is it sensitive? If use AP, you can come back when I140 is still pending. But the I140 must be approved at the end, otherwise, one is out of status without other valid nonimmigration visa. I have the same concern as you.
