answer and opinion wanted!!

As far as I know, it was submitted to Texas center, since I live in NC. It took about 4 months for me to get both EAD and AP after filing, and my I140 is still pending.- hope this helps. My question is, is H1B a more preferable status to maintain than EAD? since I understand that if I enter with AP, my H1B status will expire. If I do go apply for H1B visa, What will happen if they decide to check my background? will AP still be good? Does any one have any opinions?
