Help: is it worthy to put my I-140 into premium track?

Hi, I filed I-140 & I-485 concurrently last August to NSC. Both cases are in pending state. Today, one friend told me I-485 cannot be processed untill I-140 approved. Is that true? If so, I would like pay extra money to expediate. Can anybody who knew it answer this question? Thanks a lot.
