emergency: J visa will be expried in Nov, if I fail to get H1b v

I have received the waiver letter form DOS, and I am waiting for job offer. but it will take some time. I am afraid of that I do not have enough time to change my visa. should I go back to china to wait H visa or can I re-enter?
