請教: Green Card and Lawyer question. Thanks a lot.

I'm considering hiring a lawyer to handle my application for greed card in the US. I was wondering how much it usually costs and whether I need to pay the lawyer in a lumpsum payment or in installments. Any other suggestions regarding greed card application are also appreciated very much.

(Additional info: PhD soon to be in an academic position.)
