EAD.EAD question again--Dan,pl

I have I-485 pending EAD and it expired this November. Now I am using H-1 working at the same University.

As this is my H-1 second year, and I-485 first EAD time, my question is if I don't want to renew my EAD till my H-1 third year, it is OK or I have to renew EAD every year till my GC is approved?

I want to Keep my H-1 status.
