You're wrong

For other non-immigrant visa type other than H or L, you have to get advance parole to travel outside of US after you file I485. Otherwise you are considered to have abandoned your I485 case. But for H and L status, you have the choice of keeping H/L status or go with advance parole. After you use advance parole, you can still keep your H/L status unless you change employer (i.e, you can't get new H/L). In that case you will have to use EAD to work legally.
